The East African Health Research Commission (EAHRC), an Institution of the East African Community, established the Young East African Health Research Scientists Forum (YEARS' FORUM), an initiative aiming to empower East African Community (EAC) young researchers to be able to shape the future of research for health in the region.

YEARS’ Forum was approved by the 15th EAC Sectoral Council of Ministers of Health (EAC/Health/15SCM/Decision 22) as one of the pre-conference meetings of the East African Health and Scientific Conference held biennially. It was officially launched by the then Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania during the 7th East African Health and Scientific Conference held in Dar es Salaam from 27th to 31st March 2019. The initiative intends to achieve a culture of research and support for young scientists in heath science.

The 1st cohort of the YEARS’ Forum was recruited in 2018. A number of regional and national workshops to strengthen the young researchers in leadership, mentorship and research ecosystems skills have been conducted to date. Most of the researchers in the 1st cohort are now post-docs.

The EAHRC seeks to enroll the most outstanding young researchers from across the EAC region with the potential to lead and impact research for health through their initiative and innovation to be part of the 2nd cohort of YEARS’ forum.

YEARS’ who were part of the 1st cohort are not eligible to apply.
