Diabetes is a major endocrine disorder of global health importance associated with high morbidity, mortality and cost of care. It is estimated that about 90% of persons with prediabetes and 46.5% with diabetes in sub-Saharan Africa are unaware of their status and as a result not on treatment.

We conducted this population-based screening to explore the prevalence, awareness and control rates of prediabetes and diabetes among urban dwellers residing in Kinondoni district, Dar es Salaam.
