THPS in collaboration with Harvard School of Public health and Columbia University conducted a study on improving maternal and newborn health using the HIV/AIDS platform (MNH+ study) at 12 dispensaries in Pwani region. Skills enhancement of health care providers in labor, delivery, and newborn care through BEMOC training, structured monthly continuing medical education (CMEs) minor renovations of the labor and delivery wards to ensure safe hygiene practices, adequate lighting, sterilizer facilities and monthly supportive supervision were done. Provision of essential medications, equipment (BP machines, feto scopes, weighing scales, delivery beds, etc.), supplies, and for use in obstetric care. Peer mama’s program to share advantages of, and encourage use of facility delivery at the improved dispensaries. These mamas delivered their babies in the respective dispensaries.
