Klebsiella species have been reported as a major cause of nosocomial infections at the Kenyatta National Hospital . Some of the infections are reported to have been caused by multi-resistant strains . Bacteria that possess resistance-encoding genes can transmit them to other bacteria through the processes of conjugation, transformation, transduction or cell-cell fusion.
