To maximise the efficacy of malaria control using bednets it is essential to understand the effective life of Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs): that is the cost per year of protection that they provide. New brands of LLINs require field evaluation before they are recommended for use in malaria vector control. As net wear differs greatly between regions, nation-wide evaluations of LLINs are required. There are also differences in net products that vary in material, insecticide, or fibre impregnation technology.
