The overall goal of this study is to conduct a three-armed cluster-randomized controlled trial to assess the impact of a combined micro-finance and gender training intervention for women, and the impact of a participatory gender training programme for women and their partners. In both cases, the evaluation will assess whether the intervention has a significant impact on participants' experience of physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence, as well as other gender-empowerment, economic, and health related outcomes. Results from this trial are expected to provide new evidence on effective strategies to reduce intimate partner violence in the East African region.
