The university commenced its academic programs thru the establishment of the College of Medicine which was inaugurated on September 17 1997, by the then Honorable Prime Minister of India, Shri I.K. Gujral.

The picturesque IMTU campus located at the New Bagamoyo Road on the Mbezi beach area of Dar es Salaam.
